Update device software

Use MK.IO to inspect and update the software running on a MediaKind Beam device. When the subscription supports software updates, available versions appear on the device’s Software panel.

1. In MK.IO, open the project that contains the device.
2. Go to Devices, then select the device.
3. In the Software panel, use the version menu to preload an available bundle or deploy a downloaded bundle.

MK.IO provides the following functions:

• View the current software bundle version.
• View the bundle available for rollback.
• View the bundles downloaded and ready to deploy.
• Download a bundle and monitor its progress.
• Switch the device to a downloaded bundle.
• Roll back to the previous bundle.

Software bundles

MK.IO updates the full operating system and software stack through software bundles and the dual-bank mechanism in Beam devices. If the selected version matches the version in the second bank, the device performs a rollback instead of an upgrade or downgrade.

Beam devices can store multiple software bundles for deployment. Storage for bundles is limited, so the device automatically deletes older bundles when a new bundle needs more space.
