Live event archive windows now support durations of up to 7 days, up from the previous maximum of 25 hours.

When the archive window is set to more than 25 hours, the manifest presents a rolling 25-hour window of the most recent content. To access content older than 25 hours, specify start and end times in the manifest request query parameters. You can also use asset or account filters to control exactly which portion of the archive each manifest request returns.

Live encoding events can generate real-time subtitles through the Predefined_ACSLiveTranscription AI pipeline. The pipeline produces WebVTT subtitles for HLS output and TTML subtitles for DASH output, with less than five seconds of added latency. Configure the source language and optional expected phrases when creating the live event.

The feature launched in all regions and is billed per minute of a running live event.

VOD translation can transcribe an audio track and translate the result into up to 25 languages in one operation. The workflow produces WebVTT subtitle tracks for the source and target languages. The feature launched in all regions and is billed per minute of processed VOD content.

MK.IO added detailed billing information for the current or a selected month. The initial view grouped usage into Live Processing and Recording, Content Processing and Transcoding, Video Streaming, Content Protection, and Storage Management.

Customers with multiple projects could inspect each project or an aggregate view. Usage across multiple subscriptions was aggregated for reporting, while charges remained separated by subscription. The detailed view launched in all regions at no extra cost.

MK.IO now includes MK.IO Beam device management, allowing you to monitor, control, and update devices through the same interface.

Fleet Management for MK.IO Beam Devices
Access your Beam device UI remotely and troubleshoot issues with the new remote access capabilities. You can also add, edit, and remove devices directly in the MK.IO UI without using the API. The release added a unified device-status view and a map of registered device locations.

Customer Onboarding Workflow
The new onboarding flow makes it simple to get started with Beam devices:

  • Create or link your organization
  • Add a payment method

Beam Software Upgrades

What is new:

  • The Streaming Endpoints API now includes a new field: publicName
  • This publicName is used exclusively for published endpoint URLs, ensuring that only approved, share-safe identifiers appear in public addresses.
  • The publicName is validated as globally unique and formatted for compatibility in both DNS names and URL paths.

Live encoding events can now use Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) for ingest. SRT uses a passphrase and AES-128 encryption by default, although protocol negotiation can select another supported key length. Live passthrough remains limited to RTMP ingest.   • The transition to the current MP4 output format completed in all regions. Existing MK.IO and Azure Media Services assets remained deliverable, and existing transforms required no changes.
  • Encoding transforms added support for variable-frame-rate input.
  • Standard VOD transcoding began generating one JPEG thumbnail at 50 percent of the size of the highest-resolution rendition. The release also added the MediaKind.ThumbnailGeneratorPreset for custom thumbnails and sprite generation. Thumbnail generation launched in all regions at no additional charge.
  • JSON Web Token (JWT) became the main authentication and authorization format.

MK.IO personal access tokens use the JSON Web Token (JWT) format and can authenticate API requests with a bearer authorization header. This release began the transition away from the earlier x-mkio-token header, which remained temporarily supported during migration. Personal access tokens launched in all regions.

The Predefined_DownloadOnly and Predefined_DownloadAndClearStreaming policies became available in all regions. They let a streaming locator return direct file-download URLs for workflows such as post-production, thumbnail retrieval, and subtitle retrieval. The policies had no additional feature charge at launch, but outbound traffic remained billable.

MK.IO added Content Delivery Network (CDN) enabled streaming endpoints in all regions for live and on-demand HLS CMAF and DASH delivery. The initial integrated provider was Akamai. The release also retained support for bringing an external CDN to an MK.IO origin.

Integrated CDN delivery launched as a pay-as-you-go capability backed by dedicated endpoint capacity. At launch, customers needed to create a new CDN endpoint because an existing endpoint could not be converted. In May 2026, MK.IO moved integrated CDN delivery from Akamai to Fastly.

MK.IO added private network links for Azure Storage accounts in all regions. The connection requires configuration in MK.IO and approval by the storage account owner in Azure. Requests fail until both sides are configured. At launch, the private link could not be removed from that MK.IO storage resource after it was enabled.

At launch, the feature required the MK.IO 2024 plan and had a fixed monthly fee. Private-link ingress and egress traffic also incurred charges.

Content Key Policies enable you to control access to their content delivered via MK.IO. MK.IO now supports the following protection schemes: AES-128, ClearKey, and industry grade multi-DRM options like Widevine, FairPlay, and PlayReady. Access control can be managed by authorizing users based on claims in JWT tokens.

Video Encoding is now available and allows you to set up encoding jobs based on preconfigured Transforms. Supported encoding codecs include H.264 and H.265 with either single bitrate or multi-bitrate configurations.

Live Events functionality now includes support for live encoding, enabling you to transcode your live event into 720p or 1080p multi-bitrate HLS or DASH output. Users can select these options either through via the Create Live Event page or the /liveEvents API.

MK.IO now accepts multi-bitrate RTMP input for live passthrough events. MK.IO exposes each input bitrate in the HLS and DASH output. MK Player then selects a bitrate based on the viewer’s playback conditions.

Live Streaming is now available. Transcode your RTMP input stream into multiple HLS and DASH output bitrates. Foundation level outputs up to 720p, while the Advanced level provides up to 1080p output.

A bug that resulted in streaming endpoints not starting due to malformed labels has been resolved.
