Minimizing the end-to-end delay

Minimize the end-to-end delay for contribution

The end-to-end delay can be reduced for feeds which are based on MK.IO Beam for contribution templates. These are Live Encoder + Multiplexer, Live Encoder + Multiplexer + Satellite Modulator and Live Encoder + Reliable Transport feed templates.

Follow these steps:

  1. Configure the Live Encoder service to low delay:

    • From the Encoding tab, go to the Video encoding section.

    • In the Actions column, click to open the video parameters then tick the Low delay encoding checkbox.

    • Press Ok to save.

  2. If a Multiplexer service is present, delay can be reduced by adjusting the following parameters in the Mux Advanced Settings section:

  • Input jitter buffer latency can be reduced to a minimum of 40 ms.
  • If using encryption, Scrambling latency can be reduced to a minimum of 10 ms.
  • If using ASI output with a Dektec 2174b or 2178 card, ASI output buffer latency can be reduced to a minimum of 50 ms.

A Multiplexer service adds delay. If optimising for low delay, consider whether a Multiplexer service is required.
